MP Raju Bista Pledges Commitment to Grassroots Democracy

Darjeeling MP Raju Bista, today, met with the BJP candidates from Kalebung who contested the Panchayat and Panchayat Committee elections. Expressing his gratitude, he commended their dedication to serving the local community and congratulated the winners. Bista also extended his encouragement to those who were unsuccessful, urging them to persist in their mission of serving the people with unwavering dedication and integrity.

Highlighting the pressing issues faced by the region, Bista emphasized that the area has suffered from a lack of grassroots democracy for the past 23 years.

“This unfortunate situation has led to numerous challenges, including deteriorating infrastructure, inadequate provision of government services and projects, ineffective implementation of central schemes, and a scarcity of funds. Moreover, a select few individuals with political connections and their families have disproportionately benefited from these circumstances,” Bista said.

With the formation of the Panchayat and Panchayat Committees, Bista expressed hope that the representatives elected directly by the public will bring an end to the rampant loot of public resources. He expressed confidence that these representatives will distribute welfare schemes such as the ‘Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana‘ based on merit, rather than favouritism or political affiliations. Bista also expressed his optimism that the intervention of these elected representatives will revitalize rural schools and modernize the healthcare system in the area. Additionally, he stressed that the benefits of the MGNREGA will now reach the deserving people instead of the supervisors and contractors.

Bista urged them to maintain high-quality work standards, which will not only inspire the villagers but also secure their support in the future elections.

MP Raju Bista assured all the elected representatives that his door is always open to them. By fostering a collaborative approach and upholding the principles of transparency and public service, Bista aims to drive development and bring about positive change in the villages of Darjeeling. The MP’s proactive engagement with the newly elected representatives reflects his commitment to empowering local communities and restoring the essence of grassroots democracy in the region.
