Union Agriculture Minister Instructs WB Horticulture Dept to Expedite Darjeeling Farmers Issue

On behalf of the people of Darjeeling Lok Sabha Constituency, I thank Hon’ble Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmer’s Welfare Narendra Singh Tomar ji for kindly taking prompt action on behalf of farmers from our region.

Narendra Tomar Ji - Response to Raju Bista

On the 17th of August, I had written to Hon’ble Tomar ji requesting for:

    • Establishment of Centre of Excellence for Horticulture and Floriculture in Kalimpong
    • Revival of Potato Seed Farms
    • Development of International Marketing Avenues for Farm Products including pineapples from Phansidewa, fruits and vegetables from Terai region
    • Need to provide minimum support prices for Ginger and Cardamom

Today, I received a letter from Hon’ble Minister in which he has informed me that the Mission Director for State Horticulture Mission, Govt West Bengal has been instructed to examine the proposal and take necessary action for inclusion in Annual Action Plan (AAP).

This prompt action by Hon’ble Tomar ji Minister showcases the action-oriented outlook of Agriculture Ministry under his leadership. I am hopeful that West Bengal government will expedite the process of examining these proposals, and include these in Annual Action Plan of the state so that the Union Government can provide assistance and support to the farmers from Darjeeling Lok Sabha Constituency at the earliest.

Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars is a resource-rich region, that has the potential for immense economic growth, all stakeholders need to come together and work together so that we can transform our region to one of the most developed in the country.
