Thanks to PM Garib Kalyan Yojana
I extend my heartfelt gratitude to Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji for initiating Rs 50 Lakh Insurance for Frontline COVID workers under Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Yojana. This scheme has directly helped the family members of the 1st COVID Martyr from our region Late. Bishnu Chatterjee ji.
Bishnu ji was a frontline COVID warrior who sacrificed his life for the people. When the pandemic hit our region, Bishnuji was also assigned as a health care provider in a quarantine centre under Phansidewa Block in Darjeeling District. Tragically, while working there, he contracted Coronavirus and died due to complications arising out of it.
He was the first Frontline warrior martyr from the North Bengal region.
Following his death, I had asked Darjeeling District Administration to initiate the process to ensure that his family is supported and all insurance benefits from both Central Government and the State are reached to the family. I had also taken up the matter with the Union Health Minister and Union Finance Minister’s office for expediting the process.
Today, I am happy to report that Rs 50 Lakh has been deposited in the account of his wife. I am hopeful that this sum will help the family to tide over any financial crisis due to the death of Late. Bishnu Chatterjee ji.I am most thankful to Hon’ble PM Narendra Modi ji and the Government of India for their compassion and care during this Coronavirus pandemic.
I also thank Darjeeling District Magistrate and other Administrative officials for their quick action, which has helped the family get insurance settlement in less than three months.I am requesting West Bengal govt to offer a job for one of his family members and also kindly process the Rs 10 Lakh state government insurance.
