MP Raju Bista Raises Land Rights (Parja-Patta) Issue in Parlaiment

Member of Parliament, Raju Bista today raised the issue of Land title rights (Parja-Patta) in Darjeeling constituency. He informed the house that more than 80% of the people living in Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars are deprived of any Land titles.

Speaking on the issue of District Improvement Funds or DI Fund, a British system of taxation introduced by the British to deny land rights and title deeds for the indigenous people, MP Bista said the land rights policy of West Bengal government has been discriminatory towards the indigenous Gorkha, Rajbonshi, Adivasi, Rabha, Meche and Toto communities.

Addressing the speaker, he added “because there is no democracy in Bengal, we have no other option but to appeal to the government through your chair.”
