Excerpts of Demand for Grants (Budget 2019-20), Youth Affairs and Sports Ministry, laid by MP Raju Bista

This is a youth-oriented budget with a very keen focus on transforming the sports culture in our nation. By declaring the formation of National Sports Education Board (NSEB) this budget has widened the scope of our ongoing Khelo India program. The allocation to the Sports Authority of India (SAI) has increased by 55 crores to rupees 450 crores.

There is an urgent need to focus on the following issues: Development of stadiums in Darjeeling Kalimpong, Siliguri, Kurseong, Bijanbari, and Mirik, Establishing Centre of Excellence in Sports in Kalimpong; Conducting of more national team selection camp in the region; introducing Special Scholarship for Mountain Children and Conducting National Games, National camps, and other competitions regularly in the region.
