Thank You Note to Hon’ble Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Thawarchand Gehlot

I am most thankful to Hon’ble Thawarchand Gehlot ji, Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment, Govt of India for kindly taking note of my request regarding building of Hostels for students in the town centres of Darjeeling, Siliguri, Kalimpong, and Kurseong.

Minister of Social Justice and Empowerment Thaawarchand Gehlot

On 27th of August, I had met Gehlot ji and had explained to him that Darjeeling and Kalimpong districts lie in the higher mountain region of Eastern Himalaya. Due to the geographical terrain in which the district is set, it is very difficult for the students from here to travel long distances to study for their school and college education. Most of the students, therefore, preferred to stay in town centers of Darjeeling, Kalimpong, Kurseong and Siliguri for their studies.

I had thus requested him to set up hostels under the Babu Jagjivan Ram Chatrawas Yojana in the town centers of Darjeeling, Siliguri, Kalimpong, and Kurseong which the children from SC, OBC, EBC and Minority communities can avail.

In the same meeting, I had also requested for a camp to distribute free aids and assistive devices to Persons with Disability (PwDs) under Assistance to Disabled Persons for purchasing/fitting of aids/appliances (ADIP Scheme). I am thankful that the Ministry has initiated the process of holding Assessment camp at Darjeeling Constituency.

Hon’ble Gehlot ji had then told me that given the vision provided by Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji to ensure “Sabka Saath Sabka Vikash”, it is very important for us to make sure that these students are provided all the help and support we can provide them.

Yesterday, I received a letter from Gehlot ji, in which he has advised Shri. Rajib Banerjee Minister-in-Charge, Backward Classes Welfare and Tribal Development Department, Govt of West Bengal to submit a proposal in this regard.

I am most grateful to Hon’ble Gehlot ji for moving taking up this issue immediately, and I am hopeful that the Govt of West Bengal too will work with the same sense of urgency in this regard.
