Today, I requested the Union Government to expedite the process of ascertaining Permanent Political Solution to fulfill the long pending demand of the people from Darjeeling hills, Terai and Dooars region.
I shared my deepest appreciation and pride that I feel in witnessing history unfold right in front of my eyes, as under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi ji our government has successfully resolved that were deemed to be impossible to resolve.
I informed the Parliament how – Abrogation of Article 370, resolution of Bodoland issue and the rapid pace of development in hitherto neglected North East region, has given hope to people from our region that Gorkhaland related issue will be resolved very soon.
I requested the Parliament to take cognizance of the fact that the demand for Gorkhaland state is a long-pending demand of the people from Darjeeling Hills, Terai, and Dooars.
I informed the house, how twice in the past – in 1986 and in 2007, the government have experimented by creating semi-autonomous bodies like Darjeeling Gorkha Hill Council (DGHC) and Gorkhaland Territorial Administration (GTA), both of which have failed to fulfill the aspirations of the people.
Given the demands of the people and significance of this region from the national security perspective, our party has resolved to find a Permanent Political Solution to the long pending demands of our people in our 2019 Sankalp Patra.
I informed the house that, Permanent Political Solution to the long pending demands of the people from this region is important to not only usher in peace, prosperity and progress in “Chicken Neck” region, but it will also ensure the protection of identity, language and culture of 1.5 crore Indian Gorkhas.
I have therefore requested the Government to take necessary steps to expedite the process of ascertaining Permanent Political Solution for our region.
